Enders Steps Down as Chairman of the Great Pottsville Cruise

Jerry Enders, longtime Chairman of the Great Pottsville Cruise, has stepped down after twenty years of involvement and thirteen years as Chairman.

According to Jerry, “It’s been a great ride, but now it’s time to spend time with family and enjoy my hobby of classic cars and our Museum.” Jerry says that Jerry’s Classic Cars & Collectibles Museum will be running events at the Museum in 2014, such as Cruise-In weekends for Fords, Chevys, Mopars, and all makes. “It was time for a change,” he says.
Jerry feels that new chairman Dave Clews of 12-Volt Dave’s Audio in Pottsville, a longtime co-chairman of the Cruise and Pottsville Lions Club member will make it a smooth transition. Dave’s new co-chairman, Ed Hurst, manager of Bruce’s Auto Mall in Schuylkill Haven and a member of the Schuylkill Valley Corvette Club, has the experience, and a love of cars that will help move the Great Pottsville Cruise forward with new ideas.

Some of Jerry’s favorite memories of the Cruise (“the greatest event of the summer,” as he refers to it) include having the famous Batmobile in town; and having celebrities like Dennis Gage of TVs “My Classic Car” and Genevieve Chappell, California’s “Queen of Cars” participate in the Cruise. Even Jay Leno of “The Tonight Show” fame helped out.

“It has been an honor to chair this great event on behalf of the Pottsville Lions Club. Over the last thirteen years the Cruise has raised, in one way or another, over one million dollars for local charities. I would like to thank all the sponsors and businesses that have supported the event over the years, and hope you will continue your support of the Cruise as it moves into its 21st year under the leadership of Dave Clews and Ed Hurst. All I can say is “thanks” and “Keep On Cruisin’!”

Pottsville Cruise Gears-Up
for 20th Anniversary!

The Great Pottsville Cruise is gearing up for their 20th Anniversary with the return of celebrity guest, Dennis Gage of “My Classic Car” as seen on SPEED.

According to cruise chairman, Jerry Enders the Great Pottsville Cruise’s 20th year is set for Saturday, August 10th, 2013 – a fun day of events! It will kick-off with the “raffle run” from 9 am to 12 noon with the cars cruisin’ through Pottsville and the surrounding area to get their raffle run map stamp for chances to win some great prizes.

Then it’s to the museum! Jerry’s Classic Cars and Collectibles Museum will be the first stop for Dennis Gage from 11 am to 3 pm. The museum will be open from 10 am to 4 pm for tours and a meet & greet with Dennis. There will be live radio, a D.J. spinning oldies, car show & cruise in and refreshments for a fun-filled day. The museum is located at 394 South Centre St., Pottsville with plenty of parking available.

Head to Downtown Pottsville for the main event held in the historic section of North & South Centre St. Stroll through the streets for the cruise in from 4 pm to 9 pm and enjoy hundreds of cars, from classics to Corvettes & Mustangs, to rat rods and more, along with thousands of spectators. From 5 pm to 9 pm, take photos and get autographs with Dennis Gage, who filmed the Great Pottsville Cruise in 2008 for “My Classic Car”. There will be live music, judging, trophies and raffle run prizes, also an area for food vendors and specialty products and the Pottsville Lions Club will be offering 50/50 chances and more, with ALL proceeds to benefit the Pottsville Lions Charities. So put this event on your calendar today!

The 19th Annual Great Pottsville Cruise is gearing up for an action packed day of events. This year’s Pottsville Cruise will be all new, starting off on Cruise Day with a poker-style Raffle Run throughout the area from Frackville to Auburn, with many stops in-between. From 9 am – 1pm, Cruisers stopping in at the Holiday Inn Express in Frackville can sample a “Taste of Schuylkill” with pierogies and kielbasy, and A&A Auto Parts will welcome Cruisers at the Schuylkill Mall. St. Clair stops will include Vito’s Coal Fire Pizza and the Philly Pretzel Factory.

The Raffle Run will take cruisers south to Auburn to Long Trout winery; Orwigsburg’s Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson; and VIST Bank, R&R Auto Group, and the Manheim Diner in Schuylkill Haven; all from 9 am – 1 pm. The run will include Pioneer Pole Buildings on Route 183 (9 am – noon) for a short pit stop on the way to Stone Mountain Wine Cellars near Hidden Valley Golf Course. Cruiser’s won’t want to miss Massari’s Blu Tavern on route 209 near Minersville for a fun stop with food and photos before heading into Pottsville at noon for the City Raffle Run
stops and open Cruise.

Local businesses that are planning a fun-filled day for Cruisers’ pit stops include Brewer’s Outlet, Sands Ford/Suzuki, 12-Volt Dave’s Audio, Bob Weaver GM/Chrysler, The All-American Café, Ed’s USA Auto, Ken’s Tires (Laurel Blvd location), both Pottsville Coney Island locations, Copycat Business Systems, Subway, Murphy Jewelers, Greystone Restaurant, and Maroon’s Sports Bar & Grill. The Schuylkill County Visitors Bureau at Union Station will be open from 9 am – 3 pm; and Yuengling Brewery and Gift Shop will have a table downtown for their pit stop location from 4 pm- 9 pm.

Cruise Day, Saturday, August 11, 2012 (rain date Sunday, August 12th) will kick off at 9 am at Jerry’s Classic Cars & Collectibles Museum, S Centre St., with a Cruise-In with refreshments, live radio, and Museum tours. Registered Cruisers may visit as many or as few locations on the Cruise map as they wish, in any order they wish, and will receive a Raffle ticket for each place they visit. It’s open Cruising throughout the afternoon. Everything comes together starting at 3 pm for the downtown Pottsville Cruise-In and Car Show with two live bands, judging, vendors, and raffle drawings, along with a spectacular fireworks display at 9 pm. All events are free to spectators, so come out and enjoy a great day with hot cars, good music, and great people.
